Unconscious biases are social stereotypes about certain groups of people that individuals form outside their own conscious awareness. Everyone holds unconscious beliefs about various social and identity groups, and these biases stem from one's tendency to organize social worlds by categorizing.

Our focus will shift away from:

  • Avoidance - From fear or discomfort that certain questions may bring
  • Passive Acceptance - Because you believe people don't change
  • Combative Confrontation - As a result of past conflicts fueled by anger

and towards 

  • Active Participation - Being willing and ready to "go there" despite our fear
  • With Pure Intent - Giving others benefit of the doubt that we all want to be better
  • Proactive Engagement - Striving to actively Exchange experiences with others who are different from us
