By backing out of the Paris Agreement on climate change, and offering to renegotiate a new pact, the US has created an opening for China to take on a leadership role in the international community and press ahead with coordinated climate action, according to Timiebi Aganaba-Jeanty, an expert in international environmental law at the Centre for International Governance Innovation.
