Pastor Jeremy shares Wednesday in Glendive.
Matt 16:13 When Jesus came into the region of
Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who
do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” 14 So they said,
“Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others
Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15 He said to them,
“But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter
answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the
living God.” 17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed
are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not
revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18
And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock
I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not
prevail against it. 19 And I will give you the keys of the
kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will
be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth
will be loosed in heaven.”
● Jesus makes a distinction between Peter and the
rock or the foundation of His church. Peter is a
person, the foundation of the church is our
confession that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the
Living God.
● Paul describes the church as “the body of Christ”
When we are born again we do not become the
church, we become part of the church. We do not
become Jesus, we become a member of the body.
● If the foundation of the church was Peter, the
church would have collapsed two verses later
when Jesus tells Peter to “get behind me Satan,
you are an offense to Me for you are not mindful
of the things of God but the things of men.”
● Jesus said He would give us the keys of the
kingdom of heaven. You might say that keys are
required to gain access to areas that are valuable.
● Wisdom, salvation, righteousness, faith, how to be
led by the Spirit of God, the believer’s authority,
these are all keys that will give us access to the
valuables of freedom, peace, joy, victory, healing,
provision
● A key ring holds all your keys...sometimes you
know what all the keys are for and sometimes you
have forgot what key that’s for and sometimes you
didn’t even know you had a key on your key ring.
● The key ring for the keys of the kingdom is the
Word of God. The Word runs right through every
key. It is center cut, right through the top of the
key. It is what holds all the keys together, makes
them more efficient to find and easier to use.
Eph 6:10-20
● You can’t take off and put on salvation when you
want to.
● You can’t take off and put on righteousness when
you want to.
● This portion of scripture goes along with Matt 16’s
keys and binding and loosing in the manner that
you take what you know about salvation,
righteousness, faith, the Word of God...and you
use it to withstand, resist, bind, & loose.
