What will Johannesburg look like in 35 years’ time from a spatial perspective? A 2015 report published by Allianz, titled The Megacity State, stated that Johannesburg will be classified as a megacity by 2030, with its population exceeding 10 million people. As the population and economic activity is increasingly concentrating within the major urban centres of Johannesburg, this morning we will look at spatial dynamics and analyze spatial processes in the City. We will also look at access as a key objective for spatial transformation, as spatial integration has been a key objective in post-Apartheid spatial planning. So what will Johannesburg look like in 35 years’ time from a spatial perspective?
