Whats Next!? Episode 40: Give Us The Bluez
Finally out of the 30's, I'm back on the Whats Next!? podcast in my father's office. This week I talk to the illest poet in Houston, TX. He sites the likes of Maya Angelou and Saul Williams as the celebrity poets; along with Houston's Spit Kodak and Self the poet as local poets that motivate him. You may have heard Courtney and me reference him in episode 39; so we had to bring Vincent "Blackbluez" Johnson out! We find out that Bluez has been writing since he was younger and a piece he turned into his teachers became the blueprint to his classmates. It was there that Blackbluez found his gift! His song on his mind during the episode was Fear by kendrick Lamar (19:51). I went with K.O.S. (Determination) by Black Star and Lately by Tyrese. Blackbluez spits his "Identical" (21:05) piece where he states that the motivation to write it came from Caucasian people telling him he looks identical to every black actor. So he decided to write the poem according to that association. Vincent explains how to get more recognition as a poet. He gives us a snippet of the poem that is brings acclaim in Houston!
