Bernie Sanders and Zohran Mamdani say that billionaires shouldn't exist. But the truth of the matter is that our welfare system is dependent on those billionaires and other productive workers that produce much more than they consume. In this commentary we analyze the economic forces driving the American welfare state and show how that system is unsustainable.
