META is adding channel subscriptions, promoted channels and ads in Status in the WhatsApp updates tab, which is now used by 1.5 billion people globally. META plans to maintain user privacy as personal messages, calls, and statuses remain end-to-end encrypted. The company will use limited information like country, city, language, channels followed and interaction with ads.
