The Parable of the Wheat and the Tares  Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43With the explanation of Jesus- the simple understanding of this parable is quite simple- Seed sower- Jesus, Field- World, Wheat is good sons of the kingdom Tares are Sons of the wicked one, The Devil sowed the taresGood seed Goes to Heaven-Tares get put in the furnace of fireNow some people have said that this represents the church but it doesn’t- Jesus himself says “represents the world” he didn’t say church- Plus- Matt 18 shows how to deal with sinners in a church- you remove them- you don’t let them grow together. Plus- many other scripturesThis isn’t a message about looking for tares among us- its about looking at your own wheatEveryone knows what wheat is- it’s a grain used for food- Tares are the wheat weeds that grow up with it- early stages it looks like wheat- but its not. When its full grown- you know what it isThey didn’t’ have roundup back then- Jesus uses an agricultural example- separate at the end of harvest. Keep the wheat, burn the weeds. How do we apply this to our lives

Make sure you’re wheat and not a tare

Now- if we know that wheat goes to heaven and weeds go to hell, we’d all want to be wheatI don’t want to minimize this scripture, but I will say- I am glad that weeds are going to hell. Wheat- 43 Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!We want to be wheat. We want to be bread. Carbs. Good healthy crop that can be harvested. We’ve talked about fruit a lot here and over the past few weeks. We want that. We talk a lot about self-examination here- and some would argue that we don’t preach assurance of salvation- but we do- we can rest in the assurance of Jesus and our salvationBut if you’re here today and you’re NOT a Christian- you should be looking at your heart- if you ARE a Christian, you should be examining yourself to continually move towards sanctificationPsalm 139:23-24 Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; 24 And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting. And that’s a great verse to start with- My wife had an amazing word couple wed. ago and she asked- how much cancer is an acceptable amount? How much dung you want in your water? The church has 3 ordinances that belong to us, marriage, baptisms, communion. During communion we know1 Corinthians 11:28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. And that’s a continual process of our faith- God wants us to live in reflection- he wants us to look at our hearts continually- every comm.2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified. And its not out of fear, but of reverence- I still ask my wife “are you ok, what can I do for you?”Lamentations 3:40 Let us search out and examine our ways, And turn back to the Lord;1 Corinthians 9:27READWhats the litmus test for wheat? How do we know we’re there?Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

Tares- 41 The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, 42 and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.Tares- the fake wheat that grows among the wheat- we do not want to be that- So if you’re sitting here- wondering- am I wheat or weed? Are you a slave to lawlessness?Romans 6:19 READWho runs your life, your desires or Jesus?
