Fear is not a bad thing, in and of itself. The bible teaches us to fear the right things and not to fear the wrong things. This presents us with an interesting dilemma. How do we determine when we are experiencing the right fear. When does our fear become sinful. This issue becomes even more relevant because of the fear of death that is prevalent in our society. Before writing off one another for our fears we need to have a clear idea of what rational and irrational fear looks like in the face of a real and imminent threat.
