When God Seems Silent

“How long, O Lord? Will You forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me?” - Psalm 13:1.

Have you ever felt forgotten by God? Have you ever prayed, cried, waited… and nothing seemed to happen? It’s like heaven went quiet, God disappeared, and every promise feels too far to reach. David felt that too. The man after God’s own heart — the same David who faced Goliath and saw miracles — was now broken, asking, “How long, Lord?”

This psalm begins with protest. David doesn’t hide his pain. He feels forgotten, abandoned, weighed down by constant sorrow and by the enemy’s success. But right in the middle of that darkness, he does something powerful — he keeps talking to God. He doesn’t walk away. He prays even when he feels nothing. That’s faith at its purest — believing when everything around says otherwise.

And then comes the turning point. The same psalm that begins in tears ends in praise:

“But I trust in Your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in Your salvation. I will sing to the Lord, for He has been good to me.”

David hadn’t seen the miracle yet, but he chose to trust God’s character. He decided to sing before the answer came. And that decision turned despair into hope.

Maybe you’re living your own “How long?” right now. Maybe your prayers seem to echo into silence, and your faith feels worn out. But remember: God’s silence is not His absence. He’s working, even when you can’t see it. He hasn’t forgotten you. He’s shaping you, strengthening you, preparing you.

Today, God is calling you to do what David did — stop focusing on how long it’s taking, and start focusing on who He is. Choose to trust. Choose to praise. Choose to stay.

Close your eyes right now and whisper, “Lord, even when I don’t understand, I trust You.”

Let that be the turning point of your story. Because hope that despairs… still hopes. And those who wait on the Lord are never forgotten.
