When Jesus Doesn’t Play By Church Rules & What We Can Learn From The Great Disruptors Of History with Matt Hooper

Listen Later

Have you ever levelled up in your life? You got a promotion, a new relationship, a great opportunity.

You're buzzing, you're excited, this is GREAT!

BUT you know that if you tell certain people, they're NOT gonna be happy for you.

Their invested in the way you USED to be & your new blessing is gonna be a problem for them.

Instead of being happy to share your great news, you're left wondering how you can keep it on the downlow, so they won't get upset.

Do you disrupt a relationship for something you know will be better?

Or do you forget about your new thing and do things the old way?

In Luke 6, we read of two examples of Jesus messes with religious tradition to help people in trouble.

The Pharisees, the religious rulers & community leaders & people with most invested in the religious tradition, were ticked.

And they wanted to kill Jesus, for messing with their traditions.

Wow.

In this pod, we talk about the importance of resistance & holy disruption in Jesus's life (and our lives too)

We’ll look at great disruptors in church history - Martin Luther, Harriet Tubman, John Wesley, Martin Luther King Jr & Dietrich Bonhoeffer.

And ask the question - What traditions should we remove, replace or recycle to help people connect with Jesus in a life giving way?

And if you're wondering whose permission you need to do this kind of thing, the answer is simple:

If Jesus is messing with it, it's fair game.
