When Routines are Interrupted by a Vacation

Listen Later

I wrote this little Min-esode after taking a vacation with my 2 long time best friends.

How welcome it is to take an opportunity for some fun but also how the interruption of the status quo can enhance the clarity and ambition you have when you return to those routines.

We met in a city that neither of us lived. I was very present on this trip.  As I put my home life on pause for a bit, I realize, coming home, I had a new take & energy to the routines & patterns of my usual life.

I am always quite aware of patterns, things like making or spending money, in my frequency to eat, drink & exercise, or the time I spend on various personal or professional goals.   This trip brought an interesting perspective on daily patterns and how our routines make demands on us. After recording this, I did the math, and it was definitely not about the money but more what our roles, that determine the frequency of these type of get togethers.

My two friends & I found an opportunity to drop everything for 4 nights & meet in a place for the most fun possible.  All 3 of us are wives, with full time careers (not to mention the fact both of them are moms!).  But as we met up, attended the Cyndi Lauper concert💞 & it was all back to being just girls, (before all of these other roles). All 3 of us "just wanna have fun" and so we did.

Since this interruption, I feel like I have a new lease on my routines at home.

How about you:
Do you feel rhythm in your routines?
How do you interrupt them when your goals & routines feel heavy or out of alignment?
Do the roles you play give you the freedom to do so?
After a vacation are you inspired to come home & lean into structure & the pattern of routines?
