Publisher's Summary:
I am too young to die, but I am going to. And soon. I never realised it would be a privilege to grow old. I used to believe in something. In love. Romance.
I am not sure when my attachment to those ideas disappeared, when the final crumb of hope was stolen - or given. All I know is that it is now gone. And I, though I am not, feel suddenly old. Far too old to believe in happy endings.
This confession is not just about mistakes. It is about a journey. My journey. That is about to end, prematurely.
Amber Whittington-Jones is dying. In her last days she begins to write down her story in an attempt to make sense of her life, to explain to herself, and the one person who still might understand, why she made her choices. But for all her insight, Amber cannot foresee the events that are about to unfold, events that will once again bring her family to its knees and force the past out into the light.
An extraordinary novel which keeps the reader guessing to the very last page, When the Bough Breaks is the work of a born storyteller - an unrelentingly compelling tale of love, addiction and infidelity.

When the Bough breaks
This absorbing tale will keep you guessing right up to the end. It is not a classic 'who dun it', with blood, guts & mayhem, but the inner story of a slightly disfunctional family will keep the reader pinned to their seat in order to learn 'what happens next'. Very possible, even probable, well described, a book to remember.
Excellent read
Excellent read, you really don't know "who dunnit" till the end. I couldn't put it down, it was so enthralling and the story line was so intriging.
Devoured, I slept with darkness. .
Superb read ... every single character, Amber the lost wife, her one in a million husband Wade, their a- hole son Tyler, his world- wise life knocked around friend, Joshua, and the bit players, Amber's friend, Sylvain and the probing psychotherapist all make an impact in this human drama about life, loss, betrayal, unbridled passion and redemption. Author has a great future if she can keep on writing a page turner like this one. In the right Hollywood hands and good casting this would make one super movie. Cover says author could be South Africa's very own Jodi Picoult. I have not read a better book by Picoult.
