Dr. Jo Shapiro is a head and neck surgeon and a professor at Harvard Medical School. As a physician who was infected by COVID-19, she found herself, at first, fascinated by—and even studying—how her body was experiencing the disease. But as she got progressively more ill, observing her symptoms turned into simply trying to survive them. Here, Dr. Shapiro, who is also an expert in peer support for healthcare professionals, shares what she learned about COVID-19 from the point of view of both doctor and patient, now that she’s on the other side of the disease.
