In this episode, I walk through the sobering account of Ahab, Jehoshaphat, Micaiah, and the lying spirit in 2 Chronicles 18. This chapter forces me to ask a searching question: do I really want the truth, or do I only want reassurance that my plans are right?
Ahab had plenty of religious voices around him. Four hundred prophets were ready to tell him what he wanted to hear. But Jehoshaphat recognized that agreement is not the same thing as truth, and he asked for a prophet of the Lord. Micaiah’s message was not comfortable, but it was true.
I talk about how easy it is to gather voices that support our desires while resisting correction from God’s word. Scripture warns that people can turn away from truth, heap up teachers according to their own desires, and even be given over to the lies they prefer.
This episode is a call to love the truth when it comforts us and when it corrects us. God’s word is not something to manage after we have made our plans. It must govern what we believe, teach, and practice.
