Scripture:
“Remember Lot’s wife.” — Luke 17:32
Some things in life are easily forgotten. Others stay with us for years.
In Luke 17:32, Jesus gives one of the shortest commands in all of Scripture: “Remember Lot’s wife.” Just three words — yet behind them is a powerful warning.
Lot and his family were being rescued from a city under judgment. They were told clearly not to look back. But as they fled, Lot’s wife turned to look behind her — and in that moment, everything changed.
Her glance backward revealed something deeper than curiosity. It revealed where her heart still lingered.
In this episode of Digging Another Well, we reflect on why Jesus tells us to remember this moment. Following Christ requires forward movement. Yet sometimes we leave something behind physically while our hearts still long for it.
Looking back with longing can stall our growth and divide our devotion.
If there is something in your past that still pulls at your heart — a habit, a season, a relationship, or a mindset God has already called you away from — this devotional is a gentle reminder that God’s direction is always guided by His mercy.
When He calls us forward, it is for our good.
