Many professional painting contractors don't use a lot of masking tape. They've honed their skill to such a point that they can cut-in straight lines without it. I'm Dan Hansen and this is a minute at RepcoLite Paints sponsored by Benjamin Moore.

If you've got that skill, you can maybe get by without taping as well. BUT, what if you don't? Well, then, masking tape can be your best friend. It's not a crutch . . . but it is a tool that can save you time and help you achieve professional results when painting.

BUT . . . one other thing to think about here: It's not just about you. If you have people working with you who don't have that skill developed . . . taping helps you assure that they're work will produce better results as well. This is true for DIYers AND it's true for contractors who run crews. Sometimes people are in different places regarding the skillset. When that's the case, taping on a project is a great way to control quality and make sure you get the results you want.
