Imagine a world where
war is but a bad memory
where every country lays down
all weapons of death
and lets them be turned into
scrap metal used
to beautify
the places where
all societies live
peacefully
no lovely fields
and wooded glens
set aside to bury men
no grey markers and
white crosses all aligned
to note the losses
no innocents who perish
from families that
they cherished
buried in piles
of war’s debris
tragedy that no
one likes to see
even the enemy
children butchered
throughout history
plus thousands of
tiny babies

No dictators demanding
that you follow them
or else you die
How this has gone
on for so long

No gold star mothers
no sons or brothers
no uncles or fathers
and no women
who served only to

the military could be used
to keep the peace
among those who
will always just be criminals
as armies make them minimal
why can’t this be convincible
true peace that’s unconditional

instead of being oppositional

the needs of people
besides war

a still closed door
that leads to what
we’re hoping for
true harmony from
shore to shore
