Everyday Welcome

When We Feel Afraid - But God is Bigger

Listen Later

In this episode, my dear friend Kim Russo shares her personal testimony of walking with Christ.  From a place of complete loss and hopelessness, God brought her to Himself in Jesus, to living a life that wholeheartedly embraces others in order to introduce them to her Savior.  Kim is honest and vulnerable, and I think we can learn much from seeing God’s faithfulness through hardship.

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” - Hebrews 10:23-25, ESV

Sometimes, we may be in a place where we can’t see through the darkness that seems to overwhelm us.  Other times, it may be someone we love who is in such a place.  But God is faithful, and all who yield their lives to Him will see the fruit of His work!  It might be a matter of throwing up our hands and saying, “Help!”  It may be that He has done mighty works and He is calling us to speak up about His goodness and faithfulness.  Kim reminds us that when He calls, we have to respond… and we cannot let fear of anyone else’s opinions hold us back.

Key points:

  • Without Christ at the center, every “beautiful” thing leaves us empty.
  • We often seek to control our lives, and without Christ, we’re left longing.
  • Sometimes God allows us to lose everything in order to awaken our longing for Him.
  • God often uses the “hard words” of those who love Him to draw others to Himself.
  • When God is calling us to do something and we don't do it, we are often fearing man more than fearing God.
