TRIGGER WARNING This episode contains mentions of abuse, domestic violence, assault, and sexual abuse/assault.
In this episode, we examine high-profile legal cases involving Black women who have come forward with allegations of sexual abuse, domestic violence, and assault—and the public backlash that followed. We cover Halle Bailey and DDG’s domestic violence cases and custody battle, Cassie’s lawsuit against Diddy and his affiliated businesses, as well as the federal sex trafficking charges that placed Cassie on the witness stand, and lastly, the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion by Tory Lanez, which sparked widespread debate and exposed deep societal biases against Black women who speak out.
We explore how the public responds to these cases through the lens of DARVO tactics (Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim and Offender), the unsettling truth that even concrete evidence doesn’t always lead to justice, and the cultural tendency to protect abusers while framing accountability as persecution.
Through the lens of stan culture, media narratives, and systemic disbelief, we unpack critical questions: Who gets believed? Who gets protected? And who gets punished?
There are many other examples we didn’t mention that further reinforce the concepts we explored throughout the episode, illustrating the public records of similar behavior to that alleged, widespread defense of offenders, the silencing of Black women, and the persistent minimization of their pain. I encourage you all to continue the conversation, do your own research, and draw your own conclusions.
