Sometimes when stuff happens and we just don’t know what to say, a song of encouragement bubbles up inside. We hold on to it for dear life because music softens our heart. As we hear the song, even with a heavy weight on us, we just keep on singing. Christians throughout the history of the church have sung the psalms. They were sung in communal worship. Just think of the other Christians who have gone before us, and who also prayed by singing these psalms over the centuries! Many psalms are set to simple music today. They are easy to follow and memorize. The bottom line is, it’s another way of praying. So let’s look at some psalms as examples of songs we may sing today when words fail.
