When Your Job Pays You To Play

Listen Later

This week started off as a simple discussion. What happens when jobs pay you to go to conferences, learn, mingle, adventure and.... play? If we stop and think about it, aren't paying employees to go have fun - albeit in the name of their chosen professions - contrary to American workplace stereotypes? Or is the gain worth the time and money spent? We hypothesize that while on the surface it's all fun and games, travel and conferences for work are just one of the ways companies invest in their employees to keep them around longer.

But what are the other ways companies are trying to get employees to stay longer? Turnover occurs at a high rate these days, yet things like increased PTO, work-from-home options, and other benefits are more prominent than ever. So is it the perks we're looking for? Or is it greater pay to go with the increased cost of living over the decades? Where's the disconnect between what younger employees want, and what managers and leaders think they want? We discuss with an ENGAGED live-stream audience, creating one of our favorite episodes we've ever had.  Let's get into it!
