This is when we were hosted at 99.9 Ghetto Fm a community media station in the slums of Mukuru Kwa njenga.
Mukuru slums as any other slum in the world has been faced by different challenges including crime, drug abuse, prostitution and other challenges that face slums all over the world. Mukuru kwa Njenga has an estimated 100,000 households with an approximation of more than 300,000 people.
Climate change is happening now, and it’s the most serious threat to life on our planet. Fortunately, there are plenty of solutions to climate change, they are well-understood.
We held a conversation on how we can mitigate climate change.
The residents of informal settlements are more vulnerable to the health effects of climate change due to poor housing, pre-existing health issues and lack of basic infrastructure, including health care.
Communities experiencing extreme poverty have the fewest
resources and little capacity to adapt and therefore are the most vulnerable
It is problematic that they have always been portrayed as
victims rather than agents of change.
It is imperative to empower and educate those who are disproportionately affected, including women and other marginalized groups.
