On the whole another wonderful story

Having thoroughly enjoyed book 2 -Refining Emma (Candlewood Trilogy #2)- I expected good things from book 3, and on the whole it did not disappoint!

Unlike the previous two books, book 3 feels a bit less like a series of vignettes and more like one story. It took me a moment to switch gears, but again I loved the characters so it didn't take much to keep me engaged.

That said, I found it frustrating that the hero seemed to do things periodically that felt out of character (or at least the motivation for the actions were muddy). Even this wouldn't have lowered the rating on this book for me, but the handling of the ending is what finally dropped a star for me.

******SPOILER ALERT*******

I simply couldn't feel good about an ending where a fiance leaves the relationship intentionally broken to go put together a big surprise behind the scenes to make up for it. What kind of a marriage would they be headed into if the spouse intentionally leaves a really big issue unresolved (which is VERY hurtful to the other spouse) only to build intimacy in outside relationships (at the expense of their significant other) by creating a surprise with others...?

Let me say again I LOVED this series... but these last few pages of this book took a good bit of the joy out of what should have been an awesome ending because I kept cringing at the major marital faux pas that was unfolding.

Mind you I'll still read the book undoubtedly many more times - I loved the series - but my expectations will be managed next time to prepare myself for this somewhat disappointing ending.

Sweet Christian Romance

I love these kinds of books for 'getaway' reading. These are pure storytelling with a Christian theme. No sex or violence, I know the authors I can trust to deliver these stories and Delia Parr is one of them. While she's not at the top of my favorites list she's good at bringing in characters who are believable and her situations bring in humor along with some drama.

Awesome series!

What a treat to share the lives of Emma's family and friends in this series. I was touched by the humorous events as well as shed a few tears at some points. A very satisfying read.
