In My Truth

Where our negative self-talk and self-doubt comes from with Liam Gordon

Listen Later

“I just can’t let something go until I can understand why it happened.”
In this episode of In My Truth with Sarah Riegelhuth, we’re joined by the infamous Liam Gordon! Liam has been mentioned in some previous episodes of In My Truth, and we’re excited to talk truth with him (possibly even with a wine in hand!).
Sarah and Liam have been friends since high school, when they were emo before emo was even invented.
Slightly more recently than that, Liam Gordon started his business career with a painting business for ten years, but eventually left feeling burnt out and needing a sabbatical. What began with attending the Burning Man festival has turned into an incredible year-long journey for Liam. He now lives in the US, has a company with Sarah and is sitting on the floor dissecting untruths.
In this episode of In My Truth, we’re diving into self-doubt and self-belief, and how that first appeared in Liam’s life in the form of the relationship he had with his father as a child. Sarah also gets real about the process of dealing with her break-up, and how self-talk has interfered with the journey.

Like many of us, Liam and Sarah deal with negative self talk and in this episode they dig deep into how that has manifested in their lives. Do you struggle with negative self talk, and how does it show up for you?
“The brain is an amazing tool, but it’s also f*cking annoying sometimes!”
Liam and Sarah also discuss the untruths they’re living with around:
Reframing negative self-talk as a positive thing around wanting to better ourselves
Having something ‘wrong’ with us vs just knowing something about ourselves
The process of getting over a break-up
The repeating habits of the hamster wheel and how to jump off with the lessons
Emotions and stories that come up when parents get sick
Releasing anger towards parents
Tapping into our inner child and childhood memories and beliefs
Where negative self talk comes from
Inner child healing work
Imposter syndrome
Judging ourselves for how we deal with situations
Training our brains out of constant worry
Meditation
Social anxiety
Fear of failure and self-sabotage
