It's astonishing to realize that the last 'Final Destination' film was released when I was just a hopeful 20-year-old. The fourth installment, titled 'The Final Destination', suggested it would be the last in the series back in 2009, but anyone familiar with the trends in Hollywood likely knew that wouldn't hold, and indeed, it only took two years for another sequel to emerge. When a new installment arrives 14 years after the previous one, there's an expectation to innovate in some way to validate its existence. This film does introduce some variations to the established formula, just enough to feel fresh while still adhering to the elements fans cherish.
The opening scene stands out as particularly impressive; it's lengthy, inventive, and features some memorable kills. However, the pacing slows down afterward as the narrative unfolds, before launching into a series of exhilarating kill sequences that are truly remarkable. Unfortunately, a recurring issue in this series persists: the presence of unlikable characters. This seems to be a deliberate choice to create a sense of disposability and danger, but I believe the films could resonate more if the characters were more relatable and engaging overall.
