Cait Raft stood in a firing stance on the roof of an apartment complex, the wind whipping her fabulous hair as she held the cold steel of a 9mm pistol in both palms. From a birds eye, she appeared as a flipper from a pinball machine, pivoting as she had been from left to right and vice versa. There were no rhymes to these movements, no distinct patterns or elegance, they were erratic, born of fear from the slow advancing of the two targets in front of her, the twin causes to her effect.

Cait pivoted to her right and aimed down the sights at the familiar face and form of her good friend Molly Lambert (@mollylambert on twitter, host of podcast @nightcallpod). Molly held her hands up in surrender as she walked. Cait pivoted to her left. In her sights this time was a second Molly Lambert, identical in every way: same face, same body, same clothing.

“It’s me Cait.” Said the Molly to her left, “‘I’m Molly Lambert, i’m your real friend”

“Don’t listen to her Cait.” Said the Molly on her right, “I’m the real Molly Lambert, she’s a fake!”

Cait’s vision swam as her eyes filled with tears, and some distant disassociated part of herself thought that it was fitting, for her vision to be just as hazy and unclear as was her mind.

“Me!” Shouted a Molly

“No me!” Shouted the other Molly. The pair continued like this for several moments until Cait could no longer take it.

“No more fake friends in 2020!” Cait shouted and squeezed the trigger. Birds scattered at the crack of sound, and in its wake came silence.
