A phrase many of us heard growing up goes something like: “Don’t lie—God hates liars.” But if that’s true… and we’ve all lied… what does that say about God’s love for us?
In Episode 30 of From Guilt to Grace, we keep walking deeper into the “Abba, Father” series and confront one of the biggest barriers to intimacy with God: the belief that His love is conditional—that He hated “sinful us,” but started loving us once we got saved.
Scripture tells a different story.
Using Romans 5:6–11, this episode lays out the stunning truth that God didn’t begin loving you after you cleaned yourself up. He loved you while you were still a sinner—in the middle of your rebellion, weakness, and rejection. Even when we were enemies, God moved toward us with reconciliation, not disgust. That’s the first step in truly connecting with the Father’s love: realizing you don’t earn it—you receive it.
And to be clear, this isn’t a casual view of sin. Sin is serious. It separates. It’s why blood had to be shed. It’s why Jesus was mocked, beaten, and crucified. But the cross doesn’t prove you were lovable—it proves God is loving.
You don’t become loved when you become a Christian. You were already loved. And now, by grace, you’re invited to live like a child—not a performer.
Takeaway: Stop striving to be “worthy” of His love. You never will be—yet He loves you anyway. And that’s exactly why we can cry, “Abba, Father.”
