Content Warning – Discussion around racism
White people can stop racism. A difficult truth for some people to hear but it does not make it any less true. White people need to do more listening to educate themselves about what racism is and the things they can do to start the change that is needed in the world.
In this episode Amy explores whiteness, white privilege and her own experiences around racism and what she, and others like her, can do to be a true ally.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Amy has been speaking with a lot of black people and people of colour, she has learnt a lot about her own whiteness, privilege and her own racist actions.
Not wanting to be uncomfortable and being afraid are the enemy of change. We have to forget about ourselves and our own individual selves and look at the collective, what can we do to change the narrative, what are we doing ourselves that is racist that we didn’t realise? We need to educate ourselves and others and share the truth about racism.
If you are feeling uncomfortable by these types of conversations, think about why that is. You shouldn’t feel defensive, you are just being called upon to do something, to help change this racist world. Change is not comfortable.
BEST MOMENTS
