What does it mean to be ‘human’?

It is a massive question, a question that we don’t often spend time reflecting on – it is a question we answer, often, by not reflecting but by doing, by living. In this sense, it is worth slowing down and starting to grasp what God’s word says about being ‘human’.

It is a question that is prompted by two movements in our wider culture: the advent of Artificial Intelligence, and the influence of social media. Both of these wider cultural moments challenge how we think of ourselves as ‘humans’. But, we must not make this a purely modern question – it is the question posed in the third chapter of God’s word. It is the question that we have answered in such a way that sin has entered this world, and brought the judgement of death.

Today, we are starting a series looking at this question, on a number of levels. Let me be very clear: this is a starting point, not the whole detailed account. And we need to keep digging, and considering, and reflecting.
