A central point of division between modern and traditional Christians is on the interpretation of Scripture. Many modern Christians believe that it is up to the individual, using Scripture by itself, to interpret God's teaching. Traditional Christians, on the other hand, believe that the Church and the Christians throughout history have authority in the interpretation of Scripture and that they should be looked to as authoritative and sometimes infallible.
