The #scrummaster is the glue that binds the #scrumteam together.
They work with the #productowner as well as the #developmentteam to create an environment where others can excel and where the right product can be built in the right way.
Scrum Masters use a variety of tools, frameworks, coaching, and facilitation to achieve this objective.
Coaching is by far the most powerful tool in the arsenal of a scrum master to help the scrum team consistenty achieve their goals and objectives.
But who coaches the scrum master and #agilecoach?
In John McFadyen's experience, unfortunately, nobody does.
It's ironic because coaching is such a powerful methodology for discovering new opportunities and executing on great ideas.
The great scrum masters and agile coaches do invest in coaching, mentoring and contiuous practice in their journey to mastery but it isn't as widespread a practice as it is in professional #coaching.
People who sign up for a career in coaching, especially through certification bodies like the International Coaching Federation, tend to invest in a personal coach, a professional coach and a few mentors as the standard practice for their skills development and career progression.
It's a pity that the same philosophy doesn't apply in the #agile industry.
But that is something we are looking to change. John McFadyen has worked in some of the highest performing #scrum teams in the world. He has also worked at the coalface of some of the largest, most complex #agiletransformations in Europe and the UK.
A deep love for the coaching element of scrum mastery and the benefits of being an #agile coach with deep expertise in agile environments as well as professional coaching is what led to the creation of the Agile Coaching Academy.
An academy that provides coaching, mentoring, teaching and practice for aspiring scrum masters and agile coaches. Every scrum master should have both a scrum master as well as a mentor.
A mentor is someone who has walked the path successfully and helps an aspiring scrum master or agile coach master their craft.
They do so by offering advice, insights, recommendations and helping their mentee work through their line of reasoning and thinking.
They often challenge ideas and help their mentee consider all the options available to them, and based on the context and opportunity, select the option that best serves the team and organisation.
Invaluable.
