Who Do You Think You’re Talking To?
Have you ever gotten a phone call and not known who is on the other end? Doesn’t it impact the conversation?
What happens when we really know God?
Our prayers can be genuine
Our prayers can be personal
Our prayers can be wholehearted
Our prayers can be specific
Your understanding of what God is really like shapes everything else in your life, including your prayer.
What is God like?
Omniscient – God is all knowing
Omnipotent – God is all powerful
Omnipresent – God is in all places
For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.
– Psalm 100:5
God is good – pure and simple
God’s goodness gives us reason to pray
God’s goodness is the source of all good
God’s goodness is not forced on us
Because God is Good:
His plans for my life are always good
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
– Jeremiah 29:11
God has a plan for every person
God has a purpose for every person
God’s plans are revealed through prayer
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
– Romans 8:28
If God provides for the greatest needs of our lives – the sin problem, why would He not take care of every other need in our life?
Because God is Good:
He does not say yes to every request
When the request is wrong and you are is wrong God says no
When the request is right but the timing is wrong God says slow
When the request is right and you are wrong God says grow
When the request is right and you are right God says go
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. 9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
– Isaiah 55:8-9
Because God is Good:
He invites us to live with Him forever
May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.
– 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17
Restore us to yourself, O LORD, that we may return; renew our days as of old
– Lamentations 5:21
