🤖 Who Gets to Survive the Future?

Listen Later

Muskism represents a modern ideological and economic framework that defines 21st-century capitalism. It marks a significant departure from the 20th-century social contract, where technical progress was traditionally linked to the promise of improved living conditions for the majority of citizens. Today, that promise of universal prosperity has been replaced by a model of selection, where the focus is on who might survive the coming shifts and who will be left behind. The driving force behind this transformation is the rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and massive corporate investment. Leading figures in the technology sector are increasingly moving away from the narrative that innovation will make everything better; instead, they suggest that society must reconcile itself to changes that may make life worse for many, including the elimination of stable jobs for educated professionals. By 2026, annual investments in AI infrastructure by a few dominant global corporations are projected to exceed 560 billion dollars, a scale of spending that rivals the entire public budgets of many nations. This extreme concentration of capital has resulted in a significant erosion of democratic control. Crucial decisions that shape the future of society—such as the nature of work, wage levels, and the distribution of economic and informational power—are being made by a small group of corporate executives outside of the democratic process. In this context, technological change functions as a cultural revolution that occurs without public voting, polemics, or traditional political resistance.Under the framework of Muskism, society is not viewed as a community of citizens to be negotiated with, but as a "cybernetic collective" to be programmed. Politics is re-imagined as a form of engineering where dissenting views are treated as "mind viruses" and democratic deliberation is dismissed as a systemic inefficiency or "noise" that causes delays. While it presents itself as a modernization project, Muskism is essentially futurism in the service of hierarchy, offering autonomy to a chosen elite while predicting exclusion for the rest of the population. The rhetoric has also shifted toward geopolitical competition, with some leaders suggesting that people must endure worsening conditions to ensure their nation defeats global rivals. There is a growing concern that the wealth generated by these systems is being captured by a group too narrow for any healthy society to sustain long-term. This shift mirrors the impact globalization once had on manual laborers, but it is now targeting "white-collar" mental workers, with predictions that AI could eventually raise unemployment to levels significantly higher than those seen during the 2008 financial crisis.Ultimately, this movement represents a dual revolution: one technological and one ideological. It seeks to convince the public that a strictly hierarchical vision of society is the natural order and that democracy should not limit the ambitions of technological leaders. The current era is characterized by this ideological battle, where a major risk is a society that passively surrenders the direction of human progress to a handful of billionaires.
