Who Hasn’t Sinned?

Who Hasn’t Sinned?

“Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” - John 8 verse 7.

A woman caught in the act of adultery is dragged into the middle of a crowd. The religious leaders aren’t seeking justice—they’re trying to trap Jesus. They ask if she should be stoned according to the law. Tension fills the air. Everyone waits to see what Jesus will say.

He bends down and writes on the ground. Then He stands and says, “Let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone.”

Those words hit hard. Silence. Slowly, one by one, the accusers walk away. The oldest leave first. Maybe because they knew, after a lifetime of failures, just how much mercy they too needed.

When everyone is gone, Jesus turns to the woman and asks, “Where are your accusers? Has no one condemned you?” She replies, “No one, Lord.” And He says, “Neither do I condemn you. Go now and leave your life of sin.”

In that moment, Jesus doesn’t excuse her sin—but He also doesn’t shame or crush her. He offers mercy, truth, and a new beginning. And that same mercy is available to us today.

Maybe you feel like that woman—guilty, ashamed, wondering if there’s still hope for you. Hear Jesus’ voice saying, “I don’t condemn you. But go—live differently.” Grace doesn’t mean we stay where we are. It means we get up and walk in a new direction, with Him.

And maybe you’ve been holding a stone in your heart, quick to judge someone else. Remember: we’ve all sinned. And the grace God gave you is the same grace He wants you to show others.

Let’s pray:

Lord Jesus, thank You for Your mercy and love. Help me to remember that I’m not perfect, and that I need Your grace every day. Teach me not to judge others harshly, but to show compassion like You do. And when I fall, lift me up and lead me in a new direction. In Your name I pray, amen.
