This is a question no one have been able to answer? And no one will be able to answer it for me or anyone else! Many people have come to me for mentor-ship and the same question I asked them, who are you? They start saying what they do.
Can you define who you are without what you do? This is the most important discovery anyone can do, building the life you desire requires you know who you are? people who know who they are end up dominating people who don’t. This is why I took some time to find out Who I’m?
Edafe Okporo was born in Warri Delta state Nigeria, have one brother and two sisters. In the process of finding myself, I called my immediate elder sister Anita I thought she would know more about me because we spent most time together as kids. She doesn’t even know anything about me, I asked her who is Edafe Okporo, she said Edafe Okporo is a human being, we are all human beings, and I posed the follow up question as your family who I am? She said Edafe Okporo is an LGBTQ Refugee.
All over the media and all places, when you type my name the same things pop up Edafe Okporo is a gay, Nigerian, refugee and the director of RDJ Refugee Shelter.
So, I called my mum to find out the meaning of my name and she told me that Edafe means riches, I knew that this was the meaning of my name but I wanted to also show people one of the process of finding the meaning of their name. Then I ask her why they gave me this name and she told me it was the contribution of her mother Mrs. Alice Akanusi, my late grandmother.
The most important people in your life is people you have relationships with, So I called on my partner Nicholas Giglio to ask him some questions about who I am? And he said First Edafe is my partner, then he continues he is an Author, Director of RDJ Refugee Shelter, Activist and a caring and loving person.
He spoke about my relationship, my work and my personality that is a complete evaluation of who I am? Do not only define yourself with your work.
Who is Edafe Okporo, I would say finding yourself is a journey many people are not willing to take but if you do not find out who you are, you will continue to live this life in a way that continuously give you the idea of who you are not. Edafe Okporo is a human being, member of the LGBT+ community, son of my mother, loving and caring, partner to Nicholas Giglio, Director of RDJ refugee shelter, advocate and an educator.
