Jesus said that the greatest commandment is to love the Lord, our God.  The second greatest commandment urges us to love our neighbor.  The definition of the term “neighbor” has changed in modern times.  Back in Old Testament times the law of Moses said that people should take care of each other, including the traveler or temporary resident.  People had a responsibility towards those in proximity to them.  However, our perception of distance has changed with jet travel.  An airplane can travel several hundred miles in an hour, making a lot more of the world easily accessible.

What’s more, mobile phones are now in widespread use.  It’s possible to reach people almost anywhere on the earth.  Maybe it’s time to change our concept of who our neighbor is.  We now have the ability to care for anyone in need, anywhere in the world.  We certainly have little excuse to not do that. 

Jesus told us that we are to love our neighbor as we love ourselves.  Modern technology gives us the tools to do that in a much broader sense.  And there are such great tools online.  You can search for anything and find the Good News online.  Even our website has amazing tools you can refer your friends to. Let’s make good use of those tools. More than ever, let’s reach our world.
