Teaching: Pastor Macho Lara

What does it mean to experience joy in a season that still feels unresolved? This teaching invites us to rediscover Advent joy not as a fleeting emotion, but as a response to God drawing near. Through Luke’s Gospel, we see that joy appears before circumstances change, often in the middle of uncertainty, disruption, and waiting.

From the shepherds who receive good news in the dark, to Mary who carries both promise and pain, Scripture shows us that joy does not ignore sorrow or wait for clarity. Joy is rooted in who has come, not in what has been fixed. It is the assurance that God is present and faithful even when the story is still unfolding.

This teaching calls us to receive joy as something given, not manufactured. As we hold hope alongside grief and share our joy within community, Advent reminds us that joy is not something we force ourselves to feel. Joy is a promise we learn to trust, because God has already come near.
