R.J. Rushdoony: 00:08 America’s UN ambassador, Jeane Kirkpatrick, in her book “Dictatorships and Double Standards” wrote most tellingly of an illusion common to many of our professors, bureaucrats, statesmen and politicians.
R.J. Rushdoony: 00:25 This illusion is the idea that vague social forces shape events rather than people. Ambassador Kirkpatrick tellingly cites evidences of this very dangerous myth. If social forces create events, then it becomes necessary for civil government to engineer those forces which will create the desired results. Such a belief however makes people the creatures of forces rather than God’s creation.

Our civilization and our country are the products of men of faith and action who shaped events and set forces in motion rather than being shaped by then.
R.J. Rushdoony: 01:25 I submit that this belief that social forces shape events is a new religion, not sound sociology. I submit also that it is a very damaging faith. It produces pessimism and a sense of futility. It cuts the vital springs of human action and channels energy in a self-defeating concept.
R.J. Rushdoony: 01:49 History is not a product of vague social forces, but very real peoples who by faith embarked on grave ventures and made great steps forward. Behind every great age of advance in history, we find men of action vitalized by a powerful faith. Forces do not exist in the abstract.

Rev. R.J. Rushdoony (1916–2001), was a leading theologian, church/state expert, and author of numerous works on the application of Biblical law to society. He started the Chalcedon Foundation in 1965. His Institutes of Biblical Law (1973) began the contemporary theonomy movement which posits the validity of Biblical law as God’s standard of obedience for all. He therefore saw God’s law as the basis of the modern Christian response to the cultural decline, one he attributed to the church’s false view of God’s law being opposed to His grace. This broad Christian response he described as “Christian Reconstruction.” He is credited with igniting the modern Christian school and homeschooling movements in the mid to late 20th century. He also traveled extensively lecturing and serving as an expert witness in numerous court cases regarding religious liberty. Many ministry and educational efforts that continue today, took their philosophical and Biblical roots from his lectures and books.
