Last week, President Donald Trump said he would suspend American funding to the World Health Organization. This was after the organization came under fire for mishandling the early days of the outbreak and allowing Chinese misinformation to be taken as fact. In this episode, Drew and Alex look into the World Health Organization. They discuss its strengths and limits and both take a critical stance on how it has handled this crisis. They also criticize its openness towards working with Chinese officials even though there were many early warnings from Taiwan and Hong Kong about a “new form of pneumonia.” However, Drew and Alex think that the WHO is more than just its upper leadership; both feel that this organization is important in aiding the third world during a pandemic and they think that defunding it during a pandemic could be detrimental for a global effort to combat the virus.
