When we were kids, we were curious, creative and uninhibited. But as we grow, someone criticizes us and we quit trying. Someone makes fun of us, and we pull back. We're not picked for the team, so we quit playing that sport. Someone "unfriends" us, and we are less likely to try to make new friends. Or tragedy strikes, and we realize that the world is a scary place. That perspective changes us.
