Big Idea - Do we understand fully all that is expressed in the idea of Messiah? The Pharisees were diligent students of the Word, the expert interpreters of the Bible, but Jesus’ question reveals that they do not really grasp all that is meant by this title. If they do not really understand what the nature and origin of the Messiah are, then it is no wonder they cannot see the Messiah when he is standing right in front of them! But shouldn’t they have really been able to figure this out? Why was it so hard for the most diligent students of the Word to miss something as important as the Messiah? How can we make sure we do not make the same mistake and miss the most important and vital truths in the Bible?
