This parable, while familiar, is puzzling in the end, particularly as the master reacts to the third slave’s handling of the entrusted talent. Is Jesus really saying that to those who have more will be given, and from those who have not, what they have will be taken away? Isn’t this the Jesus who always pays attention to the poor and downtrodden, who frequently reverses the status quo?
