That Can't Be Right

Why are the GRAMMYs so mean to my friend Beyoncé? with Dr. John Vilanova

Listen Later

I love Beyoncé. But I hate that she's never won Album of the Year at the GRAMMY Awards. So I turned to Dr. John Vilanova, Professor of Practice in Journalism & Communication and Africana Studies at Lehigh University whose major work concerns the influence of race and culture on ideas of what “great” music sounds like. We unpack what led him to this area of research (it involves the 2009 VMA Awards), the origins of the Recording Academy and the GRAMMY Awards, and why we should care about who wins awards.

That Can't Be Right is a podcast built to explore structural wrongs, cultural oddities, and wild opinions.
