KEY TAKEAWAYS
Why are you Lying?
The idea that you might hurt someone’s feelings often leads to people lying and saying yes to something in an attempt to please. When you say yes in this context you will immediately feel stressed.
Lying creates inner conflict and you are paving a path of deceit as soon as you lie. You are then also responsible for making sure the lie is not discovered.
What does the Truth give you?
If you’ve ever lied and then realised that you’ve got to confess to it then the feeling when you tell the truth is the lifting of stress caused by the lie.
If you are honest you have no fear of anything and no fear of anyone discovering something. It gives you power over your destiny and enables you to be the person in control of your narrative.
Why do we shy away from the truth?
We sometimes want people to think we are better than we are or we might be ashamed of who we are. Many of us can be ashamed of our emotions or thoughts and worry that others won’t like us because of them.
What are the physical and mental effects?
When a lie is told the body releases cortisone and the heart rate increases as the body move into a fight or flight response. Following the lie, your brain has to work overtime to perpetuate that lie. Overtime anxiety caused by the lie can result in increased stress.
Depending on the what was said you may have to lie further to support the initial lie increasing both the deceit, the responsibility and accompanying stress of perpetuating the web of deceit.
