My Black Homebirth

Why Black Maternal Health Week Matters (and Why I Started This Podcast)

Listen Later

This week is Black Maternal Health Week (April 11–17), and instead of sharing a birth story like usual, I wanted to dedicate this episode to something deeply personal — why I started My Black Homebirth Podcast and why this work matters.

In this solo episode, I talk about:

✨ What Black Maternal Health Week is
✨ Why birth storytelling matters for Black families
✨ The maternal health crisis affecting Black mothers in the U.S.
✨ Infant mortality disparities
✨ The reality of birth access in Georgia
✨ Why supporting midwives and community birth workers is so important

Black women in the United States are 3 times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes, and many of these deaths are preventable. This episode is about awareness, advocacy, and reminding Black families that our birth stories deserve space, support, and visibility.

My hope is that this conversation encourages you to:

✔ learn your birth options
✔ support midwives
✔ share your birth story
✔ advocate locally
✔ and listen intentionally during Black Maternal Health Week

Your voice matters. Your experience matters. Your birth story matters too.
