Jesus was questioned by religious leaders about why his followers didn't fast (see Mark 2:18-22).

That is, why they didn't refrain from eating for a specific period of time for religious purposes.

The insecurity behind the question was, "Do you think you're better than we are?"

But Jesus never said that his followers wouldn't fast.

Actually, he said they would fast...only not yet.

So why did Jesus say his followers would fast later?
