Chances are you’re familiar with at least one parable. Chances are also that you’ve been confused by at least one parable. While Jesus’ parables are rich with meaning, some of it can be easily lost on us and the crowds He spoke to, for that matter. Nevertheless, it was Jesus’ preferred method of teaching. Which all begs the questions: why? Why didn’t Jesus teach plainly and clearly and simply? Why through parables? In this week’s episode, Cameron and Dr. J take a look at this question as well as unpack a couple of questions at the heart of COVID-19 and our faith.
02:29 — What was Paul’s thorn in the flesh?
04:30 — Why didn’t the Lord remove it?
08:36 — Everything is a bit different these days with COVID-19, but normally our summers involve camps and missions trips. How can we create those intimate and awesome moments with the Lord when we don’t have the summer camps and missions trips?
16:18 — We talk often that God wants to use us—our time, talents, and resources, but I feel like I’m missing something. How can I become more aware of the divine appointments God has for me today?
21:33 — What is a parable?
22:44 — How many parables are recorded in the gospels?
23:48 — Do you have a particularly favorite parable?
25:51 — Why did Jesus teach in parables? Why didn’t He choose to teach in a way that was more clear?
29:52 — Jesus seems to teach in these opposites kind of way. The first shall be last. Whoever serves is the greatest. It is better to give than to receive. I guess there’s a twofold question here: why does He do this? And, how can these seemingly opposite things be true?
32:17 — So, how do I understand parables and what Jesus is trying to say?
