In the Hebrew Bible, there are many prophecies about a coming Messiah or "anointed one".

Meaning, when the Messiah comes, he must meet the criteria laid out in the prophecies.

Even now most of our Jewish friends are still waiting for the Messiah to come.

But Mark makes the big claim that the Messiah has already come...that is, Jesus.
