Rosie the Riveter is a classic American icon. During the Second World, the U.S government attempted to mobilize women through advertising campaigns. These images targeted women and attempted to play on their patriotic duty. The Office of War Information underestimated the integrity and willingness of women to help support the war. Some of them were influenced by the visual images the government published, but some women had other motives for joining the war effort.
